A festejar como si fuese 1999!! Este domingo, Harlem Nights celebra los momentos claves del “revival” del Swing en toda su gloria!!! Esta es la epoca de Swing Kids (Los Ultimos Rebeldes), la propaganda de la marca de ropa GAP y las famosas bandas de “Neo-Swing” (por ejemplo Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies). La ropa era bastante rara, la musica no era realmente swing, el baile era….le ponian mucho entusiasmo! Fue la infancia del swing: nos da verguenza, pero nos acordamos con mucho carino!
CLASE: “The Jitterbug Stroll” con Sharon a las 20hs.
La coreo de baile en linea mas popular de 1999, no se necesita pareja de baile!
CON QUE TE PODES ENCONTRAR: Baila con esos temas que los DJ’s no pasan mas! Swing, Neo-Swing y canciones que no tenía ningún sentido pasar en un baile de swing pero que a nosotros nos gustaban parar tirar “el whip” de todas maneras! Vamos a hacer el Shim-Sham….con la canción de Bille Elliot, obviamente. Y va a haber una competencia de “Jack & Jill de Neo Swing” con premios que hubiesen sido MUY GROSOS en 1999.
COMO VESTIRSE: Vestite como tu hubieses vestido en los 90′s (pensa “La Banda Del Golden Rocket” o “Jugate Conmigo”), o ponete tu mejor (“peor?”) ropa de Neo Swing. Si tenes un Zoot Suit consideralo vestimenta obligatoria. Pantalones anchos con colores fluoresecentes, o a rayas. Remeras que te queden gigantes. Zapatos combinados. Tirardores con clip. Khakis. Pantalones “bahianos”. Medias “bucaneras”. Trajes de colores raros. Ropa onda gangster de los 20′s pero bien trucha o ropa con estilo de Rock de los 50′s (el Swing sucedio en las 2 decadas entre medio, los 30′s y 40′s, de ahi lo gracioso de la pifiada de moda). Ropa de Marinero. Zapatos de Danza Jazz. Mira las fotos como para que te des una idea.

Let’s party like it’s 1999! Harlem Nights next Sunday is going to celebrate the height of the swing revival, in all its glory! This is the period of Swing Kids, the GAP commercial, and the great Neo-Swing bands (think Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Cherry Poppin Daddies). The fashion was a bit wrong, the music wasn’t quite swing, the dancing was… enthusiastic! It was our swing childhood: embarrassing, but we remember it fondly!

WHAT TO EXPECT: dance to the songs that DJs never play anymore! Swing, neo-swing, and songs that made no sense, but we loved to swing out to them anyway! We’ll do the Shim Sham… to the Bill Elliott song, of course. And there’ll be a Neo-Swing Jack & Jill with prizes that would have been really cool in 1999!
WHAT TO WEAR: dress 1990s, or wear your best (worst?) swing revival fashion. If you own a zoot suit, consider it compulsory. Baggy pants in fluorescent colors or garish stripes. Ridiculously oversized t-shirts. Two-tone shoes. Clip-on suspenders. Khakis. Bobby socks. Coloured suits. Inappropriate 1920s gangster or 1950s rock & roll style. Sailor outfits. Split sole jazz sneakers. I’ll post some photos and videos to give you inspiration!
